on the photo you can see a black/red, so a tortoiseshell. So one of her X-chromosomes carries red and her other X-chromosome

carries black.

Dilution

The dilution gene (d) is a gene that influences the intensity of the base colour.

The dilution of black is blue and the dilution of red is cream.

The dilution gene causes the colour to become less intense.

Dilution is a recessive trait, so the cat must get this gene from both father and mother, otherwise the cat will never look diluted,

 i.e. blue, cream or blue/cream (tortoiseshell).
