THE COAT:

The kittens are born with a relatively short coat. After a few weeks the long coat begins to develop, then you can also carefully start

with coat care, with a very soft brush (when they are about 5 weeks old).

By starting early with this they will allow themselves to be combed and brushed more easily later.

Persians usually moult 2 times a year, however with good care you will hardly notice this, you simply comb out the loose hairs.

In kittens, after the second moult the kitten coat disappears completely, the longest hairs disappear and the cat looks rather short-haired for a few

weeks, after that the coat usually starts to grow again from the head and the real adult coat comes through.

COAT CARE:

Of course this long coat needs regular care. It is best to comb and brush the Persian every day.

Very young animals are best only brushed, for them combing is a bit harsh. If you do not maintain the coat sufficiently, the animal will get mats and

that is of course not so pleasant for the animal and certainly not for the owner either.

Moreover, a cat that is regularly combed and brushed usually has a more beautiful coat than when it is not regularly combed.

This regular care also ensures that the bond between cat and owner only becomes stronger. As a brush it is best to use a real bristle brush. A plastic

brush makes the hairs static and increases the chance of matting.

As a comb it is best to use 2 types: one with a tooth spacing of 4 mm (coarse) and one with a tooth spacing of 2 mm (fine).

The comb must be made of metal, so again definitely no plastic.

As support for coat maintenance it is advisable to wash your Persian 1 to 2 times a year.

You can wash as follows: You make your cat thoroughly wet down to the neck (so not the head, but the chin) preferably with a hand shower.

As shampoo you can use: baby shampoo, certainly not ordinary shampoo, this only dries out the skin.

You can also use special animal shampoos, usually available at grooming salons. You spread sufficient shampoo over the coat and tail, so that it

starts to foam, don't forget the belly and chin. After that you rinse the hair very well, until absolutely no more foam comes off.

You do this whole treatment a second time. It is best to blow-dry the cat afterwards.

Many cats do not like blow-drying, because of the hard blast and the noise, but to bring the coat into condition blow-drying is much better.

During blow-drying you must comb or brush the cat, so that the hairs do not dry curly or stringy, this later causes matting.

The so-called show preparation of a Persian is a chapter in itself, it goes too far to mention this treatment here.

It is best to contact us for this.
